University Representatives

 
Mary Segal, PhD – Temple University Principal Investigator

Mary is a Research Scientist at the Center for Obesity Research and Education and has led multiple Federally-funded research projects, including some to study health outcomes for persons with disabilities. She will liaison with the Community PI in developing the agendas for the monthly joint meetings, attend all monthly team meetings, and help to develop the qualitative analysis of the community-based participatory process.

 

 

Alice Hausman, PhD – Area of Expertise: Participatory Research

Alice is a Professor in the Department of Public Health at Temple University and has published work on engaging communities in CBPR, including the development of a participatory evaluation tool for a community health collaborative. She is a Co-Director of the Research Core of the Philadelphia Collaborative Violence Prevention Center, a federally-funded center of excellence with CBPR as its underlying principle. She will attend meetings and consult on the qualitative analysis and process evaluation.

 
 
Lauren June, MS, RD, LDN – Research Associate

Lauren is a Registered Dietitian and works for UCP’s early intervention program, providing nutrition services to children birth to 3 years of age who have developmental delays. She was raised in central Pennsylvania and has returned to the area after finishing her education in Philadelphia. Lauren had the opportunity to teach nutrition in the Philadelphia public school system and spent a great deal of time with students who had a variety of disabilities. Lauren will attend and help plan all monthly meetings and will be involved in data collection and analysis.

 
 
Barbara Wilhite, EdD, CTRS – Area of Expertise: Health Promotion

Barbara is Coordinator of "GetFIT," a health and wellness program for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers. The program is funded by the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities and implemented by the Family Resource Network of New Jersey. Most recently, Barbara was a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Therapeutic Recreation at Temple University. She has more than 25 years of experience as a practitioner and educator, focusing on improving lifelong health and well-being with a particular interest in persons with developmental disabilities. Barbara will attend meetings about health promotion interventions and will assist with coding and analysis of interviews and written materials.
